Water Quality

The West/Rhode Riverkeeper takes regular measurements of temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen, and more at a number of sites, including Avalon Shores, every Wednesday. Bacteria counts are measured May through August. Avalon Shores is identified as site W-3 in their data table, located here: http://www.westrhoderiverkeeper.org/wqdisplay.php.

Anne Arundel County Health Department Resources:

The Anne Arundel County Department of Health will provide water sampling results for 105 County beaches on its Web site and Water Quality Phone Line from Memorial Day through Labor Day. County residents and visitors can check the Department’s Web site for water quality results, or call 410-222-7999, an information-only line that operates 24 hours daily. The phone line and Web site also report emergency closings of local waterways. You can also sign up to receive free e-mail notifications when a County recreational waterway is closed or an advisory is issued by the Department of Health due to a wastewater spill or high bacterial level. The Department’s waterway notices are also available through Twitter.
