About Avalon Shores
THE COMMUNITY SWIM AREA, BEACH PLAYGROUND, AND PIER
Avalon Shores is a water-privileged community located on the Shady Side peninsula on the West River and the western shore of Chesapeake Bay. Residents have access to a community ball field and playground area, a gated boat ramp and pier, a fishing pier, a community beach with a swimming platform, picnic tables, and a playground. We are the only water privileged community on the Shady Side peninsula that continues to maintain a sea nettle net during the swimming season.
The community was established in 1932 as a summer vacation community of small cottages owned primarily by residents of the greater Baltimore, MD and Washington, DC areas. Since then, the community has grown to become a vibrant neighborhood of approximately 580 residents, most of whom are year round residents. Avalon Shores is a Maryland Special Community Benefit District (SCBD); therefore, we do not have a homeowners association (HOA). The community is administered by the Avalon Shores Civic Association's elected Board of Directors, To learn more about how a Special Community Benefit District operates and the current annual community tax rate, visit this link.
The board publishes frequent newsletters and maintains this web portal to keep residents updated on many aspects of community life. Residents are encouraged to be involved in the association, to serve as board members, and to attend quarterly open community meetings.
